SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 – Five times FA Cup winner Selangor and two time winners Perak have been drawn against tough opponents in their opening FA Cup matches that kick off on Jan 25.
During the draw held by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today, Selangor were drawn against Premier League champion Armed Forces while Perak face Johor FC which will be known as Darul Takzim FC.
FA Cup defending champion Kelantan and runner-up Sime Darby FC were given a bye in the first round.
Kelantan, treble winners last year (Super League, FA Cup, Malaysia Cup), would however, face a tough hurdle in the second round as they are scheduled to face Super League runner-up, Lions XII FC from Singapore.
Sime Darby FC will face the winner of T-Team and Perlis.
The FA Cup features 12 teams that qualified from the Super League and Premier League, five from the FAM Cup plus Preach Khan Reach from Cambodia who join the competition as an invited team.
During the draw today, Armed Forces and Pahang were named as teams that will play in the Super League next season after gaining promotion from the Premier League while SPA Putrajaya FC and UiTM FC from Kedah earned their slot to the Premier League competition after having played in the FAM Cup.
The new M-League season will kick off on Jan 5, when the Charity Shield between Kelantan and Armed Forces takes place. – Bernama
