PULAU DUYONG, Nov 20 – The Terengganu State Government is all ready for the Alpari World Match Racing Tour’s season ending Monsoon Cup from December 3-8, taking place at the five-star Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort and Spa, the home of the Monsoon Cup.
“This is the eighth edition of the Monsoon Cup that Terengganu State is hosting. Year on year, there has been vast improvements and developments in various areas by the organisers who work hand in hand with the state government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to bring world class sailing to the waters of Terengganu,” said CEO of Visit Terengganu Year 2013, En. Ahmad Fathil Abdul Ghani after chairing the state level coordination meeting at Wisma Darul Iman this morning.
The state will once again provide free shuttles (buses and bot “penambang”) for the public from Shahbandar to the venue where besides world class sailing, side events such as a fishing competition, colouring contest for children, muay thai competition, dragon boat races, Eco Terengganu festival, traditional games, cultural performances and Monsoon Concert Fiesta will be held.
The decision to have the free transportation is because there is a lack of parking spots available at the venue itself due to on-going development works on the island. Spectators can also catch the action from the nearby Pulau Warisan where more side events will be held, including the fishing competition and national kayak competition.
“We have been organising the Monsoon Cup since 2005 and know what to expect. The good cooperation between the State Secretary’s offices with various government agencies is the key to the successful implementation of our planning. The high level of commitment displayed by these agencies are commendable in providing infrastructure, support boats, ancillary services, manpower and resources,” explained Ahmad Fathil.
“There are more than 40 agencies and departments involved who have made the time to attend the coordination meeting this morning. We are thankful and deeply appreciate their full support in ensuring the standards are maintained, positioning Monsoon Cup as an icon of Terengganu” said Dato’ Wan Hisham Wan Salleh, Director of Tbest Events Sdn Bhd, organisers of the Monsoon Cup.
“I expect a huge turn out as the campaign to promote this year’s Monsoon Cup started long ago. The Karnival Monsoon 7 Daerah, which began on 28 September, will also surely help attract more spectators to this year’s event,” added Dato’ Wan Hisham.
“It would be good to continue the Monsoon Cup as it has been an economic boon for the State and has helped make Terengganu known worldwide. The number of tourists who visit Terengganu has been increasing every year, and we expect this year’s event to jumpstart Visit Terengganu Year 2013 promotions and activities,” added Ahmad Fathil. – Bernama
