Zynga acquires Draw Something maker OMGPOP

Bloggers started speculating that social games company Zynga was in discussions to acquire OMGPOP, the maker of the hugely popular Pictionary-like game Draw Something, early in the week. Days later Zynga made an official announcement saying that Draw Something and the OMGPOP team would join the Zynga family. Zynga paid a reported US$210 million (RM644.7 million) for the company but bloggers said that OMGPOP should have held out for more money.

Consumer Reports says iPad is hot to handle at 116°F

While reporters were busy talking about the pros and cons of the new iPad, Consumer Reports published an article that said the iPad was running hotter than its predecessor, hitting temperatures of up to 116°F. “People need to exercise caution,” said the report, “We are not saying it is a dangerous product, but 116 degrees can be a little uncomfortable.”

Apple share repurchase program and dividend payout

Apple hosted a special conference call to reveal that it would pay shareholders a large quarterly dividend of US$2.65 per share. Apple will also spend US$10 billion of its large cash stockpile to repurchase company shares. Bloggers questioned why the company wasn’t instead spending the money on new acquisitions and technology development.

iPad sales hit 3 million, iPhoto for iOS hits 1 million users in 10 days

Apple announced that it had sold more than 3 million units of its third-generation iPad in less than four days. Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing called it “the strongest iPad launch yet.” The Loop reported that the company’s new iOS app iPhoto reached a milestone of 1 million unique users in less than ten days in the App Store.

Windows 8 due to be finished in summer, October debut

A report published by Bloomberg on March 20 claimed that Microsoft will put the finishing touches on its latest operating system, Windows 8, this summer. That would give Microsoft enough time to ready tablets and PCs running the new operating system for an October debut. Bloomberg said it expects Microsoft to host an April event for industry partners to detail its release strategy. — AFP-Relaxnews
