Top new tech products — LG Optimus Vu:, ZTE Mimosa X, Panasonic Eluga

TOKYO, Feb 23 — With Mobile World Congress less than a week away, manufacturers are starting to show off their brand new mobile devices. High-tech product releases announced the week ending February 22 include the waterproof Panasonic Eluga, the oversized LG Optimus Vu:, the LG Optimus LTE Tag, the Nvidia-powered ZTE Mimosa X, the ZTE PF200 and N910, the Galaxy Ace 2 and the Galaxy Mini 2. Unless otherwise noted, pricing and release dates have not been announced.

A streamlined smartphone that makes a splash without getting wet

The Panasonic Eluga is an ultra-slim Android smartphone that can withstand a dip in the pool. The elegant device sports a 4.3in (960x540) touchscreen display, a slender D-shaped design with a profile of just 7.8mm, an 8MP camera, NFC, a 1GHz dual-core processor, Android 2.3.5, a battery-saving eco mode, and International standard IP57 water and dustproofing. The Eluga will arrive in Europe in April.

A slim tablet-smartphone hybrid with a “vu”

LG has debuted an oversized smartphone called the Optimus Vu:. Behind its large 5in (1024x768) IPS display, the smartphone sports a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8MP rear camera, a 1.3MP front camera, and 32GB of internal memory. The Optimus Vu: currently lays claim to being the slimmest smartphone with 4G LTE connectivity. The Optimus Vu: will be launched in Korea in March.

A smartphone that comes with its own programmable NFC tags

The LG Optimus LTE Tag follows in the footsteps of the Optimus LTE but comes with a unique LG Tag+ feature. The smartphone features NFC (Near Field Communication) and the ability to automatically change its own settings when it is swiped past special user-programmable stickers called “tags.” The Android-powered Optimus LTE Tag sports a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3in (800 x 480) IPS display, 16GB of memory, 5MP and 1.3MP cameras, and DLNA connectivity.

The first smartphone to be completely powered by NVIDIA processors

The ZTE Mimosa X is the first smartphone to feature both a Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and the (Nvidia owned) Icera baseband processor together. The Mimosa X will run the latest version of Google’s Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, and will have a high-quality QHD (960 x 540 pixel) capacitive TFT touch screen, a 5MP camera and a front-facing 0.3MP camera, Dolby sound, and DLNA. The Mimosa X is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2012.

4G smartphones that run Android Ice Cream Sandwich

ZTE will also debut two Android Ice Cream Sandwich-powered LTE 4G devices at Mobile World Congress, the PF200 and the N910. The PF200 features a 4.3in QHD touchscreen, a 1.2GHz processor, an 8MP camera on the rear, a 1080p front facing camera, DLNA and NFC. The N910 will have a 1.5GHz processor, a WVGA (800x480) display, a rear 5MP camera, a HD 1080p front facing camera for video calling and DLNA.

The popular Galaxy Ace smartphone gets upgrade and spec bump

Samsung has given birth to the Galaxy Ace successor, the Galaxy Ace 2, replacing the 800MHz processor seen on the Galaxy Ace with an 800MHz dual-core processor, enlarging the display from 3.5in to 3.8in and boosting its battery to 1,500 mAh. The Galaxy Ace 2 also ships with a 5MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera, Samsung Hub and ChatON features, Android 2.3, and optional NFC support. The Galaxy Ace 2 will go on sale in the UK from April before a global roll out.

Affordable Android handset gets a refresh

The Galaxy Mini 2 follows in the footsteps of its Galaxy Mini predecessor but has been beefed up with an improved 1,300mAh battery. It sports a 800MHz processor, a 3.27in HVGA (320x480) display, a 3MP camera, a microSD slot, enhanced social features with ChatON and Social Hub, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Galaxy Mini 2 will be available in France in March before a global roll-out. — AFP-Relaxnews
