Twitter updates iPhone, Android apps with search and notification improvements
LOS ANGELES, April 27 — Twitter has given both its iPhone and its Android apps an overhaul, adding improved notifications, an updated Discover tab that helps you find captivating content, and easier-to-use search features.
“The Discover tab helps you find interesting and timely content that matters to you,” said Sung Hu Kim, Product Manager at Twitter, in an April 26 post on the company blog. “With this update, you can see Activity on Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android. Activity is a stream of updates that shows which Tweets are favourited or retweeted by the people you follow and which accounts those people follow or add to lists.”
Search has been simplified on both app platforms too. “You can see suggestions for different spellings and related terms for your queries,” said Sung Hu Kim.
Searching for people within the app has also become easier; Twitter will now autocomplete the names of the people you follow when you start typing.
Updates to Twitter’s notification system mean that you’ll receive push notifications when people interact with you on the site. You can adjust your notification settings to receive alerts when your tweets have been retweeted or favorited or when someone new starts following your account.
Earlier this week Facebook updated its app for Android device owners (version 1.9), offering performance improvements, bug fixes and revised icons for the included Messenger and Camera shortcuts.
The updated Twitter app can be downloaded from the App Store or the Google Play store. — AFP-Relaxnews
