85 per cent of last-minute hotel bookings done on computer or mobile
NEW YORK, Sept 5 — According to a survey released on Monday, around 85 per cent of travellers across eight countries prefer to book a last-minute hotel on the internet or via a smartphone app. Just 15 per cent opted for more traditional methods of calling or booking via a travel agent.
When booking a last-minute hotel, 74 per cent do it on a computer, 11 per cent do it on a mobile phone, 10 per cent on the phone and 5 per cent directly via a travel agent, according to a survey published by the travel site Trivago on Monday.
Last-minute hotel bookings through a smartphone app are most popular in the US at 22 per cent, followed by Germany at 16 per cent, the UK and France at 13 per cent, Italy at 10 per cent and Spain at 9 per cent. Last-minute bookings using a smartphone app are least popular in Turkey (4 per cent) and Greece (3 per cent).
The UK presents the highest proportion of online bookings, with 93 per cent of participants choosing this option; 80 per cent of the participants use the internet while 13 per cent use a smartphone app. Just 4 per cent call the hotel directly and 3 per cent visit a travel agent.
The travel site Trivago surveyed around 4,142 people between August 13 and 27 to discover their preferences when booking a last-minute hotel. — AFP-Relaxnews
