The list, compiled by male website AskMen.com and Renaissance Hotels, ranked London as the top destination for men this year, out of 29 cities that made the final shortlist selected by the site’s users.
Justifying the decision, the site’s editors noted that London will be home to the enormous Olympic Games this summer, as well as a cultural festival to accompany the enormous event, describing it as “the centre of the world this year.”
Mumbai notched up second place, ‘because it’s the adventure of a lifetime,” with the site noting that transport is improving rapidly and events such as the Sunburn Mumbai music festival and Mumbai International Film Festival will add some cultural spice.
In another nod to the global sporting spotlight, Rio de Janiero was named number three because of the forthcoming 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics.
Washington DC made fourth place because “this year is the world cup of politics”, while Shanghai rounded off the top five “because it’s the showpiece city of the world’s most fascinating superpower.”
Curiously, no cities in Poland or Ukraine, co-hosts of this year’s Euro 2012 tournament, were included in the list.
