FEB 22 — Yesterday, Britain’s Education Secretary Michael Gove said exam questions will become harder in the UK in a drive to restore confidence in the system and improve standards. And he declared that, as a result, more teenagers would fail their GCSEs and A-Levels. Here in Malaysia, we also complain about falling standards and our Education Ministry has been trying to find a way to address the issue. Perhaps it is as simple as making exam questions harder. After all, having high standards will lead to more competitive university undergraduates, and a more ambitious and highly-educated workforce.
