SINGAPORE, Aug 10 — Students and staff at the National University of Singapore (NUS) had to be evacuated this afternoon when a fire broke out on the rooftop of one of its buildings.

Local television Channel NewsAsia reported an NUS spokesperson saying the smoke was first detected on the roof of Block E3A at NUS Kent Ridge Campus at 2.25pm.

The university’s campus security and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted.

The university said a security guard working in the building had been sent to the National University Hospital due to smoke inhalation.

The SCDF said three of its firefighters were also sent to NUH for heat exhaustion.

The affected building and its vicinity have been cordoned off and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. — Bernama
