Magnitude 6.6 quake off Solomon Islands; no tsunami

SINGAPORE, Jan 9 — A 6.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded 350 kilometres east of Kira Kira in the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean today at 0407 GMT, the US Geological Survey reported.

US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii said the quake did not generate a destructive tsunami. The quake was first reported at magnitude 6.7. — Reuters
